White Rock Lake Centennial Photo Contest

Submitted by on January 10, 2011 – 3:53 pmNo Comment

Calling ALL photographers in the Dallas area – beginning March 2011 White Rock Lake will begin celebrating its 100th birthday (1911-2011).  They are also holding a whiz bang photo contest where your work could be showcased and you can win prizes too.  The “divisions” include to professionals, amateurs, children and historical photos (from anyone).

From the website:

“These images may show animal behavior, portraits of wildlife in natural habitat, plant life, natural landscapes, weather or people interacting with nature or on and around the lake.”

“People interacting with nature or in and around the lake”?  Sounds like a bike photo-op to me.  The submission deadline is May 13st, 2011.

We are looking for striking images of wildlife, the wooded areas, architecture/structures, and the lake/bays.

I often describe White Rock Lake as the enchanted forest of cycling in Dallas.  It is one of the more scenic rides you can enjoy around town.  I mean is there anyone in the county who has not ridden a bike around White Rock Lake?  I thought so.

I was riding around White Rock Lake a couple of weeks ago and there are so many great spots for photos.  This is a perfect opportunity for creative and artistic minds (you know who you are) to merge cycling with White Rock Lake.

Chris started riding a bike again when he noticed the Preston Ridge Trail being constructed across the street from his house. Since then he co-founded Biking in Dallas, has gone through countless Craigslist bike projects (some better than others) and can be found pedaling around town on a Electra Ticino with a camera in tow.
