The Ungoogleable Bike
You can’t find it on the internet. It doesn’t have a Facebook site. It doesn’t seem to exist.
And yet it rides among us!
It was manufactured in Taiwan. It has this unusual head-badge:
It has a nice steel lugged frame:
Here is the rear wheel; it’s a ten speed:
The crank has the “SR” logo that at least tells me that it was made by the huge Asian (I believe Japanese) ”Sakae Ringyo” conglomerate that manufactured a helluva lot of bikes and bike parts in the 1970s and 1980s.
I bought the bike from the original owner that had it listed on Craigslist as a “Sears Bike”. He told me that he had purchased it at Sears. When I asked him what year he had bought it, he said, “In the 70s”. When I gently asked him if could remember which year, he paused and said, “Sometime in the 70′s”
The “70′s”? Yea, I hear ya man. The 70s were like that for me, too.
Now, of course, I have made this issue of ungoogleability a tad bit ironic by putting this bike on Craigslist and posting it on this site. And tonight a delightful young lady from Denton came and purchased the bike from me and told me, with a big smile on her face, that she was very happy about the bike and planned to turn it into a fixed gear bike. She also promised to send pics. I will post the pics when she sends them to me.
