Support Toni Youngblood
Back in February of 2010 Toni Youngblood wrote about her decision to get rid of the car and navigate life exclusively on a bicycle (read that article here). She’s been without a car ever since and has hosted scores of group rides, rampages, lead the Tits Tuesday ride for ages, helped raise money for an injured cyclist, and pretty much been at the center of casual and utility riding for some time now. However life for her has not been all roses, it seems she’s been gradually losing her voice and could use your/our financial help to pay for her surgery. From her Heal The Honeybadger page:
“I NEED YOUR HELP. All that yelling, squeaking, growling, wooo-hoooing, purring, commanding, singing, and general noise coming out of my face the past few years has taken a toll. You may have noticed that I’ve been losing my voice over and over–for the last several months. Oral communication has become exhausting and extremely frustrating, and it’s such a huge part of who I am so this is really effecting my life. After seeing a specialist on 2/28, I was informed that I need surgery on my vocal cords or my voice will never come back.
It is increasingly uncomfortable straining so hard to be heard :( This thing growing in my throat will get worse and that means no more wooohooos, no more shit-talking, no more funnies, no more leading the troops in bar crawls/rampages/protests/parades. Fortunately, I have insurance to cover me in such a situation. Unfortunately, it does not cover my up front expenses/deductible. My portion of the expense is around $4537 so far. I NEED YOUR HELP. I will, of course, be planning some fun fundraising events in the very near future…but in the meantime I wanted to put this fundrazr thing up and get the ball rolling. Every donation will help cover the cost of the surgeon/facility/biopsy/anesthesiologist/etc. Every little bit will help me.
I REALLY WANT TO BE ABLE TO TALK AND MAKE MY NOISES AND BE ANIMATED AND SING AND “WOOOOOOHOOOOOO!” AGAIN.
I appreciate your support in advance and will keep y’all posted on the progress and future fun events coming your way. THANK YOU, GUYS!!”
If you can help please do. Toni has made numerous contributions to the local world of cycling and now she needs us to give a little back. Besides, think about life with a Toni Youngblood who doesn’t have a voice. That would suck. So, help if you can. Visit her fund raising site here.
