Here‘s an interesting story from the New Y0rk Times that details how using Twitter can be an effective way to identify a stolen bike, and it has a happy ending.
Be sure to record the serial number on your bike frame. In the event your bike is ever stolen that number may be the difference in you ever seeing your bike again. Dallas cops visit pawn shops routinely and always compare serial numbers of new merchandise with their database of stolen goods. If they have your serial number and your bike ends up in a pawn shop they will find it.
