Santa Fe Trail/White Rock Trail Bridge Update? Maybe.

Submitted by on August 25, 2010 – 9:33 pmOne Comment

As I drove down Garland Rd. past White Rock Lake this morning in front of the 7-11 there by the Spillway, I saw this sign:

In the background, if you look hard, you can see the supports for where the bicycle bridge is going to be put in place. Now, as reported in the Dallas Morning News, and recently linked on this site, that isn’t supposed to take place for months……..although, of course, originally it was supposed to take place early in the summer.

So, what the heck is going on? Well, first of all, the road isn’t closed…yet.

It’s a flashing sign, and I attempted to capture the entire message, but it was raining (thankfully) and I was using an iphone. The signs’ messages stated that the road (a very, very busy Highway 78) will be closed on Aug. 31, 2010 from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. and on Sept. 1, 2010 from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m.

Does this mean that the bike bridge is going up? I don’t know, but I’ve never seen this road closed in the many years that I’ve lived around here. I can’t imagine what else it would be for, unless it was for some prep work relating to the bridge. However, all of the very extensive prep work that they have done so far in this area has not involved a road closure.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed, and I’ll check it out on Tuesday and get back to you with an update. Go, bridge!
