Promise of Peace Community Garden – Build Day Feb 6th

Promise of Peace Community Garden

The folks from Promise of Peace Community Garden are hosting a “Build Day” on Saturday, February 6th.  It will be at  their garden on 7446 East Grand.

They’re going to construct container kits and also the City Green Story Book Playhouse that was originally at the Dallas Arboretum.  The event starts at 9am, they’ll have hot coffee waiting.  And when you work up a hunger, Mexico Lindo will be providing lunch.  This is a family event so bring the kids, and grandparents too.  They could use extra hand tools I’m sure.  Drills, hammers, etc.

We originally discovered their organization while we were riding the Santa Fe Trail in east Dallas.  We wrote about them here.

In addition to their community garden effort they’re also looking for ways to raise money to obtain 30 bicycles for high school students at Woodrow Wilson.   How cool is that? Teaching young people the value of gardening and also introducing them to the joys of cycling and having a great trail that they can use to explore the city right their in the neighborhood.  This is cool.

Maybe you can help or know of someone who can.  If you have any ideas or could pitch in yourself, reach out to their director, Elizabeth Dry at the event, or drop by their website and send her a note.   And don’t forget you can bike there on Santa Fe Trail!  And if you don’t live near the Santa Fe Trail you can always take the rail to get to the trail.  Here’s the DART rail map.  And here’s the Santa Fe Trail map:

I just wanted to say, for whoever is planning on riding the Santa Fe to get there: It’s not yet completed to Grand. You can ride it as far as Glasgow, but then you’ll have to jump off onto Santa Fe Ave, and wind your way to Grand.

Ahh that’s good information, thanks Nate.
