Katy Trail Extension Phase III: They’re Working On It
As I drove eastbound on Mockingbird Ln. from U.S. 75 (Central Expy.) yesterday, I decided to look for signs of construction along the Katry Trail Extension to the White Rock DART station. I knew from attending numerous Dallas Bike Plan meetings that the Katy trail Extension is being constructed in sort of a patchwork manner. Sure enough, I found signs of construction along Skillman Ave.
The view of the above sign, and this section of trail, is looking south on Skillman Ave. from close to the cross street of Sandhurst. The bridge in the background is the DART Blue Line between the Mockingbird station and the White Rock station. The Katy trail extension will follow these tracks.
Does anyone know that Skillman Ave. was once called Lindbergh Ln. after famed aviator Charles Lindbergh? When he fell into political disfavor in the 1930s, the name of the street was changed. Think about that the next time you’re going to Central Market.
I apologize for the quality of the photos. I only had my iphone with me. The good news? They’re working on it. Way to go, City of Dallas.
