It’s True: the Bike Bridge over Garland Rd. is going up next week

Submitted by on August 27, 2010 – 12:25 am6 Comments

I just got a confirmation from the Friends of the Santa Fe Trail!

I’ll be up there on August 31 around 7 p.m. taking photos!

How exciting! This is such a big deal for biking in Dallas. I also had a chance to go and look at the progress on the Katy Trail extension across Central Expressway (US 75)  today at McCommas. They are going like gang-busters! But I didn’t have my camera. I’m going back this weekend to take some photos.

I have been waiting for this extension for years. Yea!

There is no announcement when the installation will be fully functional but I will be seeing one of the Park Dpt folks on Sunday at a meeting and ask for update on official opening.

if you need a volunteer to report the morning of 9/1…just let me know. Maybe I throw a watch party too, who knows.

  • Michael W. Hubbard says:

A watch party isn’t a bad idea at all. I’m going to go and check it out on Tuesday August 31 at 7 pm on the dot to see how it’s unfolding. My understanding is that the bridge will be one large piece, so it should be interesting to see them put it into place. I’ll report back immediately. I want to get a photo or two of them putting the bridge in. How exciting!

There are a couple of bars down there to toast the whole affair if anyone is up for it. Email me here.

hey, I will try to catch up with around 9 or so. I will be on the big blue Trek, the largest road bike in the world.
