On Monday Hubbard and I spent the day documenting the Preston Ridge Trail for our Dallas Bike Trail System series.  I probably took 400 photos and in spite of it not being a long ride (in terms of distance)  it kinda wore us out.

It seemed like every 100 feet we’d dismount and I’d unpack all the camera gear to snap some photos, then we’d pack back up and go another 100 feet where I’d say again, “Hey let’s stop, I have to get a picture of that!”  That stop and never really get started business will wear you out.

Along the way we stopped and ate lunch and I always graze on fruit or whatever I’m riding so we had eaten well by the time we got back to my place.  Now it was time for relax over dessert.

As I previously mentioned, Hubbard turned me on to the Pyramid Audacious Apricot beer and he brought a 6 pack with him for us to enjoy after the ride, so we did just that.  It’s bright, crisp and slightly sweet but the sweetness seems to come from the fruit and not from some heavy syrup.  He also brought some Belgian Ale that I actually ignored, I was having to much fun with the Pyramid.  He certainly seemed to like that Ale.

I love dark chocolate so that’s what I brought to the after-the-ride-feast.  Not long ago my wife and I discovered Dude, Sweet Chocolate in the Bishop Arts District, on 8th street.  They make hand crafted chocolates that look like little pieces of art.  I’m not much of a food writer so let me get to the point.  They make some chocolate covered dates that have something in the middle, I forgot.  The first time I had one I realized I had never tasted that combination of chocolate, and concluded it was good.  Real good.  Later that night I had another and decided it’s the best chocolate I’ve ever had in my life.

A night or two later my wife told me to hide all the chocolate in the garage, or I could take them to work with me.  She knew she’d be powerless not to eat them all.  So I hid them in my beer fridge.  And kept them all to myself.

I have been sharing the other chocolates with friends who drop by, like I always do, but I never told a soul about my chocolate covered date stash.   I felt kinda guilty, but I only had a few, it’s a small box.  Then Hubbard brought the beer over for after the ride.  I felt obligated to share something nice of my own with him in kind.

So, there’s a reason you don’t see any of the chocolate covered dates in the photos.  We ate them all, very quickly I might add.  Damn they were good.  Hubbard and I enjoyed ourselves.

The moral of the story?  I had no idea good beer paired so well with chocolate, maybe the long day riding bikes super charged our taste buds, but this was amazingly delicious. Now I have a reason to drive down south again, I’m out of chocolate.  Maybe I’ll pick some up while I’m in Oak Cliff at the  Mardi Gras parade this Sunday, the 7th.

Chris started riding a bike again when he noticed the Preston Ridge Trail being constructed across the street from his house.
