DART Green Line Celebration: Ride Your Bike
This Saturday, December 4, 2010, is an amazing day for the DART Light Rail system. It is the pre-opening (December 6, 2010 is the official day) Super Saturday first glimpse of the 28 mile, 15 station, $1.8 billion Green Line from Pleasant Grove in sunny South Dallas to the frozen climes of Carrollton, Texas waaaaaay out north.
Yes, that’s right: fifteen new light rail stations are opening on December 6, 2010, and you can ride them free this Saturday from 1-4 p.m. There are lots of festivities associated with this Big Day, and you can read about it here.
Think about how much of this Ciudad de Dallas will be opened up to people that have a bicycle. And I know that the end of the Green Line will be soon connected to the train line going north to Denton! Fry Street, here I come!
Yeehaa! Why didn’t they have all of this transportation infrastructure when I was a kid in E. Dallas riding around on my Bicentennial Edition Schwinn Varsity? I would have been in all kinds of trouble, and all over the place.
I don’t have any good photos of the DART line, but I felt that I should put some sort of bike related photo here in this story.
Here is a group photo from our recent Tweed Ride with Bike Friendly Oak Cliff: look very closely and you will see myself and our intrepid bike reporter, Justin Husman. And I mean look really closely………..
