Bumming Around Virtual Dallas…

Basil Kavan II bike panniers

I totally forgot to review my Basil Kavan II bike panniers, didn't I?

I have been profoundly busy with work travel and family vacations and all.  I’ve had very little time to blog much and spent less time reading the many cycling blogs of my friends in the Dallas area.  So recently I’ve been trying to catch up to see what’s up in the virtual Dallas cycling world, so here’s a quick round robin of some of the Dallas bike blogs…

Justin Husman blogs Seen On The Train which was originally just interesting things he saw and overheard while riding DART, and his cycling obsession of course.  It’s evolved into just a cool site about cycling and his interests around town and such.  Be sure to check out his cancer fund raising efforts while you’re there.

Bike Friendly Oak Cliff has had a few group rides recently, ones that I sadly missed.  They were recently awarded a $5000 grant from Bikes Belong to fund a local Ciclovia event.  We’ll be there.  More about Ciclovia events here.

Pedallas is a local blog and also operates the only (and best) online forum for local cyclists. Be sure to check their Throwback Thursday pages.

Dallas Cycle Chic is gaining momentum in the Dallas blog space and they’ve found several videos that blend cycling with style and fashion that are worth checking out.

Bike Friendly Richardson and Suburban Assault continue to be the authority on new cycling developments in Richardson and nearby North Dallas.  If you build it in Richardson, they will come, and Bike Friendly Richardson will be there to provide all the details.  Suburban Assault’s Hump Day photos alone are worth the price of admission (a mouse click).

The Urban Pedal is one of the newer blogs in Dallas, and BikeDFW is one of the oldest and is always a rich source of local politics and advances in cycling awareness and such. Speaking of which according to this BikeDFW article Plano is planning to finally join the Preston Ridge Trail in north Dallas to the Plano branch.  This means finally you’ll be able to ride from downtown Dallas to Highway 121 on a bicycle.   We wrote about the Preston Ridge Trail and missing link between Dallas and Plano here.

I was out of town and missed the last Bike Friendly Knox Henderson group ride, and just discovered the Bike Friendly Dallas blog.

So I’m feeling a little more caught up but this was a quick, short ride for me so if I overlooked your Dallas area site be sure to mention and link to it in the comments below.

Chris started riding a bike again when he noticed the Preston Ridge Trail being constructed across the street from his house. Since then he co-founded Biking in Dallas, has gone through countless Craigslist bike projects (some better than others) and can be found pedaling around town on a Electra Ticino with a camera in tow.
