Steve I have not seen what you're describing, however the other day I saw a guy who had used carbon slats in his VO rack, to create a bottom shelf. I just published the blog about the wine crate I converted into a porter rack. The whole story is here. I need to check out the VO blog and see what they're up to.

Glad to hear it. And I'm hoping that wood involves the VO rack. I noticed they had a guy that did wood slats on their blog and I'm sure that Biking in Dallas will provide added details, being the superior kind of blog it is.
