Bike To Work With Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn – StreetFilms.org
It’s not Dallas but it’s too cool to ignore. Check out the amazing StreetFilms.org video shoot and article about Seattle Mayor, Mike McGinn, commuting to work on his Trek 700. This was not a publicity op, McGinn is a long time bike commuter. He’s for real and we’re looking forward to seeing more from his administration. From the article,
When Seattleites elected a new mayor at the end of 2009, they really went for a breath of fresh air. In the general election, Mayor Mike McGinn, who rides a bike to work daily, was outspent nearly four to one. The race was very close, but with an energetic volunteer base — and a campaign that emphasized many livable streets issues — he pulled out the victory.
Watch the video and then watch it again, only this time pay close attention to the street signs. The bike trail street signs. McGinn launched the Ideas For Seattle site where folks submit ideas on how to improve the city, then they vote on the idea’s popularity. Some of the ideas are hilarious and others are on a more serious note and well thought out.
We like city leaders who leverage technology as a means of keeping in touch with their communities and I think this is a great idea.
