I first crossed paths with Alicia at the Tweed Ride.  We both have vintage, Peugeot mixtes so we discussed some of the finer points of those as we rolled down Main street with the rest of the crowd.  She’s a bike commuter, deeply immersed in the Dallas fixed scene, and is also one of the organizers of the SXSFixed project.  They will soon be traveling on to Austin for SXSW.  On fixed gear bikes. – Chris Curnutt

Tits are Everywhere

Ok, so maybe not exactly everywhere, but if you look hard enough, you’ll find some riding the streets of Dallas every Tuesday. Confused yet? Please allow me to explain.

Tits Tuesday!

Every Tuesday starting at 7:00pm a female-lead cycling group gathers at the Whole Foods on Abrams Road. Now, before all of the single Dallas guys flock to that location, you must know… while a few brave females such as myself brave the bitter cold to feel the wind through our hair, since its been so cold, a majority of the Tits Tuesday participants are guys. Not to worry – the weather will soon be warm and the girls will take reign of the Tits Ride once again. Regardless of gender, FMD welcomes all shapes, sizes, and bike builds enforcing only one rule – no dick attitudes allowed. We try to keep a 10-15 mph pace and travel anywhere from 10 to 15 miles before stopping at a neighborhood bar or food establishment.

Started by myself and 2 other local fixed gear girls, Tits Tuesday is meant to not only promote bicycle advocacy, but to get women out on their bikes. According to some article I stumbled across a few months back, a thriving bicycle community is measured by how many women and children ride their bikes. Better yet on a regular basis. And if we’re lucky, off of the sidewalk. So let me ask you – how many women do you see off of the White Rock or Katy Trails? How many do you see commuting?

Ok, so maybe that was a bit dramatic (and another blog post). The point is – Tits Tuesday provides a safe, fun, sometimes educational community for both men and women that are looking for a slower ride around Dallas. Ready for the shameless plug?  You can follow us on Twitter or our Facebook page.
