Columbusite - my general awensr there is that I take the lane at times when I feel I can best resolve a situation before it happens. That's why I take it when I'm near corners, near lots of cars parked, etc. Now, if it's a wide lane, and there's more room to maneuver, then no, you don't need to take the lane. There's plenty of room for you and a car. However, I draw the line at riding in the parking lane. That's for parking, not for driving OR riding. And you can get into trouble weaving in and out of parking lanes by not being predictable. Anonymous - I don't see this as a huge problem around OSU campus. If you travel with the assumption that cars get first priority, then yes, it might be a problem. But if you travel with the assumption that cars and bikes BOTH have equal rights to the road, then I think you'll see things different. I don't think bikes run red lights, etc. any more or less than cars do. And in my book, performing a rolling stop is the same as running a red light or stop sign.

Chris, luckily, the all-time record low temperature for DFW stands at 86F, hit on a handful of occasions last year. With luck, you will never have to deal with a 90F morning as long as you don't sleep in. My commute is a bit longer, so I go to shorts for the trip in when it gets to 80.

Riding to work with temps in the 80s is doable, coming home in the high 90s is where I need to make a change. I'll probably start changing for the trip home, I'm not breaking much of a sweat during the morning commute. I suppose when/if it starts hitting 90 in the morning I'll have to change my strategy.

This year, more than last, I've been wearing work pants on the ride in, combined with the tank top after a morning shower before I leave home. I carry the shorts and work shirt in. After cooling down, I towel off and change into my work shirt. Quick and simple. For the hotter ride home, I put on the shorts and the tank top I used when I rode to work. It is a good balance between comfort in the heat and ease of changing and showering. The light homeward-bound clothes work well after I get home.
